If anyone is out there...

I know that there is practically no people out there reading this... if any. Yet somehow there is this little SPEC of hope inside of me that someone has been reading it. And if YOU are that person, even if you have nothing to say, would you please comment? I would like to know that SOMEONE is out there!

Anyway, moving on. This week my friend and I did a back to school photo-shoot. As always all the pictures are on my other website: kadoodles.myphotoalbum.com but these are some of my favorites:

(Credit to the pictures of me, they were taken by Rebecca Plotkin.)

School has been good so far, I've only gotten lost a few times. On the second day I got REALLY lost and I ended up in this really creepy brick and cement hallway. Turns out it was the "drug hallway" and they sell drugs in there. I got warned to late.

I just got some really good music, mostly indie rock. Some of my favorites are:

*Lisztomainia-Pheonix: I love this one, it's the perfect balance of "artsy" and "danceable". I'd say it's a good one for music videos.

A Little Opera Goes a Long Way-Sky Sailing: They remind me of Owl City.

Sleepy Head- Passion Pit: This is a really cool song, my favorite part is the beginning.

Little Secrets- Passion Pit: A good one for dancing, very catchy and has a nice beat. I like this one!

*Call my Mechanic-Senator & The New Republic: This band had another song "Intermission", you may recognize it as the free single of the week on itunes. so after getting Intermission I looked at some of their songs and found this one! I really love it, it's so cute! It makes me want to lay in a meadow and look at clouds....

*=my favorites

I'll admit it, I never knew itunes had free singles and videos and such, and now...I am obsessed.

Formal

Formal proved, I believe, that our school could go one night without toms of drama. It seems that everyday in our school their is so much drama. Social power, exclusion, back stabbing, even drama by trying to get rid of drama. But, on formal night, everyone seemed to get along. We all minded our own business, and danced the night away. Honestly, it didn't matter that the decorations were cheesy, or that they ran out of water in the first 10 minutes, we all were happy to be together! And EVERYONE looked beautiful. In the end, it really didn't matter if you got your hair and makeup done or not, everyone look gorgeous!

I took many photos of my beautiful friends that night, here are some of my favorites:

What a Wonderful World

This is a video that Sarah Davidson and I made earlier in the school year for a project. We took the lyrics of What a Wonderful World and interpreted them in terms of ignorance. We interpreted the lyrics as someone singing about beautiful things in their life, when they don't see the reality that lies behind them. Watch the video, read the description (video breakdown), and then read and watch at the same time.

Video Breakdown:

I see trees of green, red roses too. I see them bloom for me and you.
The woman looks at the leaf in the stream seeing not the death of the tree but just a leaf. We wanted to first portray that her life was free of worries and thinking past seemingly meaningless things. Then we had the rose, probably in this person's house. At first it starts to bloom but soon the flower wilts and dies. This is the start to the life of ignorance this person has. A rose is a beautiful thing but eventually it dies.

And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
All she sees is the rose blooming so she assumes all is well. The deeper meaning is the fact that if we live in a non-racist environment, or if we never tease or are teased about looks, then many people assume that inequality is just an over-exaggerated topic. That if they don't see it, it really isn't there.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white.
The rain throughout the entire video symbolizes how easily ignorance is washed away and how it seems as though there are only blue skies and white clouds but the rain does eventually come. The grocery isle: An apparently worthless place for anything but food. But it is a place where people everyday pass each other and are given the opportunity (see line 5) to smile, say hello, or help someone reach the top shelf. These things seem small but you would be surprised at how many people deny these chances. They are ignorant of others.

The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night.
This is a dream sequence because the “dark sacred night” is sacred because you can shut yourself off from the world and stay in your little bubble of ignorance A.K.A: sleep.

And I think to my self what a wonderful world.
We filmed a car mirror with the words Objects in Mirror are Closer than they Appear. We used this clip to show that getting over your unawareness it's always right there. There are a ton of opportunities to learn and better yourself but as it seems, no one does. We wanted to show that there are always chances and we wanted to make someone look at how many people do not take those chances.

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky.
We chose to show the gay flag when this line comes because it is an issue that many people don't confront. The fact that it is being burned shows hatred for homosexuals but the lyrics are saying something happier. You may be accepting of gays but what are you doing to help people who are being taunted, teased, or abused because of it? Are you speaking your mind? Or are you ignorant of the problems around you just because you don't want to get caught up in something you may not belong in?

Are also on the faces of people going by.
Again, maybe this means skin tone, or racial differences but we see it as the ignorance of hardships we could see everyday but don't do anything about. We pass by people on the streets and, nowadays, do you see anyone smiling at each other, saying hello, or offering to help pick up something that someone dropped? Dr. Mikee Fallon told of a story of a man who said he would not jump off the bridge if one person smiled at him on the way there. It was a long walk and not one person offered him the slightest grin. He jumped. Did they not see him? Or did they not care? Or did they not give a thought to the fact that someone besides them might be having a problem and that they could do something to help? We drive our cars, walk down sidewalks, pass hundreds of people everyday, but do we really notice them? We could of put in a clip of someone walking on the street not seeing anyone but now people are only secluded to themselves not caring of others. And we wanted to show how busy modern day life makes it easier to not recognize others. People are so worried of what others will “do” to them that they tell their children not to acknowledge people or “strangers”.

I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do.
Now the ignorance of parents. It seems like an innocent gift, it couldn't really harm anyone right? Well, unfortunately the harm that toy gun brings isn't physical but mental. We chose to put the clip of a young child opening a toy gun for this line because we wanted to show the “new friendship” between this child and violence. The child will think it's fun to pretend kill people and become accustom to violence all because the parents think that all the gun is doing is keeping their son or daughter occupied. These guns make children ignorant of the reality of real guns and real violence.

They're really saying I love you.
It's much more convenient to call or text someone than say something to their face. But there is no feeling in a text and you can't see facial expressions on the phone. Some people know this and yet still use text message anyway even for important messages.

I hear babies cry, I watch them grow. They'll learn much more than I'll ever know.
The “babies” are the people around him. And instead of growing physically we had it portrayed as growing in awareness. They aren't immune to the inequality in the world around them. But this person won't see as much as them. When hiding behind ignorance you become comfortable with the thought that everyone is treated equally and you begin to convince yourself that things like racism and sexism never happen anymore. That is why we had a person running back to hide behind the tree because it's easier to on with your life without having to worry about anyone else's.

And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.
Ignorance is bliss while it lasts but the ending scene shows the woman walking into a dark ally where soon her ignorance will be lost like the death of the once beautiful rose.

My Website

Once upon a time a created a website...that no one visited. I suppose it was because I didn't really advertise it that well.

So, I am telling YOU to check it out!

flashfocus.weebly.com

The website is about art, and it's many mediums. I display some of my work on it, but I primarily created it for people to be able to appreciate lots of artwork, from many different artists! Although my friends have entered a few things, I knowfor a fact they don't visit it that much, if ever. Photo of the Month contest I attempted? Fail. No winner. No entries!

Facebook might seem more reasonable for looking at photography and videos, but my website puts it all in one place! Plus, you can send in poetry, movies, music, etc.: much more than Facebook offers.

I think that if more people sent work in, the website would be more updated, something interesting that people would want to visit more often.

All in all I guess I am saying to visit and enter work onto my website. And tell your friends!

Thanks for reading,
Kaitlin

Reflections

So as I was home alone, bored in the house today I thought I would take some photos.
I found this crystal ball and used it to reflect different objects. I decided to name this album "reflections". After slight editing, here are some photos!
I did not post them all on here but the rest can be found on kadoodles.myphotoalbum.com
Thanks for reading!
